We had a great turn out for our volunteer event on Friday 28th at the fantastic venue, Ferryhill Sports and Education Centre. Local people and organisations were invited to get together to match potential volunteers with the best organisation for them. The Ladder Centre recently had 12 volunteers complete their Volunteer Passport, a series of training sessions delivered by Durham Community Action.

The event was opened by our Chairman and long time supporter Peter Atkinson, followed by a speech from Nigel Jones, Ladder staff member, on his experience with volunteering.

We had a visit from MP Alan Strickland who spoke of his youth, growing up in nearby Newton Aycliffe and the community groups he attended and volunteered with.

Durham Community Action then presented the 12 volunteers with their certificates for completing their training. They also presented The Ladder Centre with our recently achieved Volunteer Kitemark.

We then invited organisations to deliver a short message about their organisation and the volunteer opportunities they have and they help to support the community, organisations attending were Solan Family Cancer Trust, Wellbeing For Life, Bread and Butter Thing and Supportive. We also had stands from Bright Futures Community Pantry and Citizens Advice County Durham.
